About
I came to be a therapist and to my areas of focus through personal experience.
Loss led me to understand the value of bereavement support and to become a Certified Group Leader through Our House Grief Support Center and a Certified Grief-Informed Professional. I am also a guest speaker at group practices and universities on how therapists can support their clients through grief.
I have always believed deeply in the importance of attachment and having secure relationships with others and with ourselves. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy as part of a blended approach and have completed my externship on Emotionally Focused Therapy at the EFT Center of Los Angeles. I draw on elements of other orientations, including mindfulness, narrative therapy, and parts work, based on the unique needs of each client.
I received a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Northridge. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Social Science from The New School for Social Research in New York City and a Master of Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama.
Before private practice, I provided therapy to individuals, couples, and families at The Mitchell Family Counseling Clinic, a community mental health clinic in Northridge, CA. There I worked with married and unmarried couples, university students, parents, and middle school children on issues with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, parenting, gender, and substance abuse.
It is my experience that clients benefit from help on multiple levels. To help with immediate distress, I focus on providing practical tools and fostering self-compassion. I then dive deeper with clients to discover how their history has shaped their relationships to themselves and others. Together, we get in touch with and find ways to express their deepest needs to the important people in their lives.
I know that it takes courage to reach out for help. I also know the impact the right therapy can have on your life, and that makes me passionate about providing the best possible support for my clients.
